Why is my senior cat not eating, lethargic, and losing weight?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Male | neutered | 13 years and 6 months old

Nikko is a loveable kitty. Yesterday he laid at the top of the stairs instead of with my mom like usual. He hasnt moved from that spot all day. He wont eat. He can move around and he doesnt pull away when i touched all his limbs. He is over 10 yrs old. His breathing was a little off as well. He has lost weight over the last 4 months. What could be causing him to do this? The photo with the person is an old photo, others are today.

Lethargy and anorexia are signs of many illnesses, and Nikko could have heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or even cancer causing his symptoms. It's actually very serious when a cat won't eat, so I would take him into a vet immediately. Best of luck.
