My dog vomited yellow liquid on an empty stomach. Emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Female | spayed

Hi my dog vomited this yellow stuff on my bed this morning. She hadn't eaten yet and had not long woken up. I have not seen her vomit this coloured stuff before. Should I take her to an emergency vet? She is booked in to go to the vet tomorrow for her vacations so will bring it up to her then but worry that its something serious. Thank you for your time!

Poor Lexi! It could be bile from not eating overnight. If she only vomited once, you don't need to rush her into an ER vet. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. I hope this helps!
