My cat's tail was cut off by a door. What can I do before seeing the vet?

my cat had around four inches of his tail accidentally cut off by a screen door. he is scared to approach people or even our house. what do i need to do as soon as he gets home aside from taking him to the vet asap? is there anything i can do? Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

There isn’t much you can do. The best thing is to catch him ASAP and get him to the vet. Tail injuries can get infected very easily, and are often difficult to heal. The vet may need to amputate part of the tail to ensure successful healing, depending on the type of injury.
