Cat has deep leg wound, can't afford vet. Where to get help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 3 months old | 11 lbs

My cat got out almost a week ago and came home with a very deep injury to his left foreleg. On the inside below his elbow. It looks like a straight cut from the front of his leg to the back. The skin and muscle is separated and the bottom half is sagging, creating a gap. Its almost to the bone. It's not bleeding and looks like he's had it a day maybe. I'm worried bc I don't have a job at the moment and I'm scared the vet will put him down bc I can't afford treatment?.. He's eaten, looks healthy

This is extremely bad, and Crybaby has to see a vet now. This is a medical emergency. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. Best Friends also has a list of resources that offer financial assistance on their website. http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/tips/trouble_affording_pet.html?credit=web_id91754962 https://www.redrover.org https://www.carecredit.com http://bestfriends.org/resources/financial-aid-pets http://lessonsfromaparalyzeddog.com/when-pet-owners-cant-afford-veterinary-bills/ http://www.dogheirs.com/resources-affordable-veterinary-care/ Check out these resources to see if one can help you, and please take him into a vet immediately.
