How to train a new kitten to use the litter box and prevent accidents?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered

I just got a kitten yesterday. Before they gave it to me, they fed it. Apparently he is litter box trained, but I have not seen him pee or poop. I think he might’ve peed on my carpet. I replaced the carpet with the litter box, so he can go there. How do I get him to use the litter box

Kittens will readily use the box if it is accessible. You can sprinkle in a litter box attractant to further entice him. If he has an accident outside the box, you can place the stool in the box and/or use a tissue to soak up urine and place that in the box. This will show him where he needs to go. Be patient and be consistent.
