My dog's ear is cut. How to treat a deep ear laceration at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have two dogs at home, and the other day as they were playing one went to rough and caught the other one's ear. There is a small but deep laceration near the tip of the ear. What if the best treatment I could provide from home? I am unable to take to vet until Sunday as I have work and also can't really afford treatment,

If the wound is not bleeding excessively (as war wounds sometime do) then you can probably just monitor it for now. Try to keep it clean and dry and you can apply some antibiotic ointment to the wound. Keep in mind however that if the wound is not sutured closed it will not likely heal back together. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
