Dog broke a nail, can't afford vet. Any home remedies for pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 69 lbs

Hi I took my dog for a run and she broke her nail. She won't let me get near it, it's very painful, I'm not sure if I should cut it or if I should wait, I can't really afford to go to the vet yet cause I am about to start my paving season in may. Is their any home solutions where I can try to treat it myself. She seems t0 be really bothered by it. It catches on everything

Hi there. You could try putting a sock or dog boot on her foot to try to protect it. Rinsing a few times a day to keep it clean is important too. If it keeps bleeding, or starts to have any discharge or odor to the site then she should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Best of luck and I hope she heals soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
