My dog has a new, hard lump under her eye. Could it be from playing?

My lurched has got a lump going under her eye up to just before her ear , it feels hard to touch , it was not there earlier , could it be from the dogs playing rough. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 22 days old | 20 lbs

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a benign or malignant growth. This could also be an abscess or local inflammation or edema. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign.
