My cat has pancreatitis, but is better. Could it be something else?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | spayed | 10 years and 4 months old | 12.5 lbs

My cat was recently diagnosed with Pancreatitis based only on senior cat yearly blood work (Pancreas levels high) and vomiting. All other values in blood work were fine and she was not dehydrated. She was given a shot for nausea and it was recommended she go on specialized RX food, but it is on order and she has been eating regular food with no problems for 5 days.. Each day she is feeling better. Is there anyway this could be something else as no specialized tests were done??

Pancreatitis is a tricky thing to diagnose. Simply having elevated levels doesn't tell us if it is a mild case or a severe case, or if the inflammation in the pancreas could be related to something else (like IBD or other causes of inflammation in the GI tract). In my opinion, which is not based on any of Elvira's medical information, if she is already feeling better, then it may not be necessary to start the food yet. I would recommend calling your vet with this update and get their medical opinion on what should be done next (if anything).
