Can I use safe sunscreen on my cat's ears to prevent sun damage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 8 years and 1 month old | 8 lbs

I have an indoor cat who was once an indoor/outdoor cat. Her favorite thing in the world now is sitting in a sunny window all day. So it would feel cruel to take this from her. But so would exposing her ears to harmful UV rays. Is there a sunscreen safe enough to use on a cat's ears?

Yes! See if your local pet store that has one specific for cats. You can use a broad spectrum sunscreen for babies and children but make sure it doesn't contain zinc oxide and PABA. Also make sure it's fragrance free.
