My dog ate a tampon. When will it pass and what are obstruction signs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 17 lb jack Russell ate a used tampon yesterday. How long before I see it? He shredded it I think when he ate it.

Oh that's not good. The problem with a tampon is that it can cause an obstruction. It can take up to 72 hours for it to pass, but if you see vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or anorexia, then the tampon is causing an obstruction, and you will need to take him into a vet immediately.
