Why is my 9-year-old cat vomiting, losing weight, and has inflamed bowels?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

My cat has been vomiting off and on over the past 9 months. Her blood work shows high liver enzymes, and her x-ray shows inflamed bowels. Recently, her bum looks raw and as if it is poking out a little. She is 9 years old. She meows constantly for wet food and refuses to eat dry food. We can feel her spine when we pet her. What can be seriously wrong with our cat?

She is probably suffering either from IBD or intestinal lymphoma, both conditions are usually treated with steroids but the later is a terminal disease. to confirm one of the conditions it is necessary to have an intestinal biopsy done.
