My dog ate Aleve. What should I do if she seems fine after eating human pain meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 26 days old | 30 lbs

I had a travel size bottle of aleve in my travel bag. I just found it under my bed with 3 pills left in it. I am unsure if it were unopened or used prior to finding it. I just got back from a trip two nights ago. Worst scenario my dog, 6 mo old 30# golden doodle, ate anywhere between 2 to 7 of these pills in the past 36 hours. What do I do? Will she be okay? She is eating fine and drinking fine, activity is normal.

The best plan is to call poison control because the timing of ingestion and number of tabs is unknown. You will need to provide as you did here body weight, #tabs possible, and timing. Also they will need the mg strength of tha tablet. Aleve can be toxic to dogs at certain doses so likely they may recommend seeing your vet for decontamination, blood work, and supportive care. The biggest concerns are the risks of GI ulcers and kidney injury with toxic doses. I hope this helps and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
