My dog ate garlic powder and is now vomiting. Is this related to garlic?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 50 lbs

My dog ate some pieces of bread that had a little garlic powder on them. This was yesterday and the day before that. Today he ate some grass and now vomited twice. Is this related to the garlic? He weighs about 50+ lbs.

I don’t think so - garlic and onions can cause anemia by damaging the red blood cells and symptoms are usually lethargy and a decreased appetite. It would also take much more than a few sprinkles of powder to cause a problem. If the vomiting continues I’d recommend seeing your vet.
