My dog's stitches reopened. What can I do if I can't afford vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 5 months old | 106 lbs

My dog had an accident on Thursday during spring break this led to him getting stitches and having to wear cone unfortunately due to us not watch him in the middle of the night he had reopen the Stitch... Unfortunately we cannot financially afford to have them restitched... Its a minor opening on the top end of the stitch but visible enough to be concerned. For now we have sealed it using bandage tape, antiseptic spray, and butterfly bandages... What else can we do?

The incision looks pretty good, and you did a great job! I would get Artemis a Kong Cloud Collar. This may be more comfortable on him, and may protect his incision. Monitor the incision daily for infection (redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, pus), and if you see any of those signs, take him into the vet. I hope this helps.
