My dog gets itchy bumps from seasonal allergies. How can I help?

My dog has seasonal allergy problems. Since spring is coming he's starting to get a lot of his allergy symptoms back. One of his symptoms is he gets bumps similar to hives filled with lymph. He can get very inflamed and itchy. My vet said to put witch hazel on him. How else can I help with the inflammation and other symptoms? Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | neutered | 6 years and 9 months old | 16 lbs
