My dog has liquid diarrhea for 12 hours but acts normal. Vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 6 years and 4 months old | 93 lbs

My dog has had diarrhea for the past 12 hrs. Total liquid the last 4-5 bathroom trips. Light brown/yellowish. Just a little lighter brown than usual stool. Usually poops solid 1-2 times a day. Had anesthesia 7 days ago for teeth cleaning. He’s acting normal otherwise. Good spirits. Eating normal. Drinking ok. When do I get concerned enough to bring him into vet ?

Hi, and thanks for your question. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
