My cat isn't eating or acting normal after spay. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

My cat just got spayed 3 days ago, she is not acting normal at all and she is still refusing to eat or drink, her ribs look swollen but may be due to not eating for 4 days, she is taking short rapid breaths, also her incision looks swollen as well. Is this normal?

Hi ! Sorry to hear that Mittens is not well. She went through a big surgery but most cats eat in the evening or the morning afterwards at the latest so there is definitely something not right. Wether is just pain, or something more concerning like an infection it is impossible to tell without an examination. If her tummy looks swollen I would definitely have her checked over ! Looking at wound in the picture, I would not be worried but given all the information ( quiet, not eating/drinking, rapid breathing and possibly distended tummy) I would recommend to have her checked over. Hope all goes well, please keep us posted !
