My puppy has a histiocytoma. Will it go away? How do I use Vetericyn?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 11 months and 13 days old | 8.6 lbs

I think my 11 month old shitzu has a histiocytoma. I just ordered her vetericyn at the suggestion of a vet on pet coach. I won’t have the necessary funds to take her to a vet due to me being on vacation, for the next few weeks. She is not acting any different, she is drinking, eating, playing, sleeping all normal and she is not licking the site at all (it’s in the armpit on front leg). When I receive the medicine how should I use it? And will the histiocytoma shrink and go away on its own?

Hello. If the lesion is a histiocytoma, it will regress & disappear on its own, often in 1-3 months. You can use the Vetericyn 2-3 times daily, but stop if it causes any undue irritation, or causes Minnie to lick the tumor. Any changes or accelerated growth to the tumor should be checked out by your vet as soon as possible. Otherwise, you can just watch things for now. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
