Why does my dog have painful bumps on her back when touched?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 3 years and 3 months old | 9 lbs

My dog has multiple pimple like bumps along her back and though she does not scratch them, she does not like to be touched there as it appears to cause discomfort.

These look like either cysts or a skin infection but I cannot say for sure without seeing her in person. Cysts aren't usually painful but may bother her a little. Skin infections can be itchy but not always. Skin infections are commonly secondary to allergies. You may want to try to put her on benadryl twice a day and bathe her in a medicated shampoo like miconahex-triz shampoo. If this doesn't help, she gets worse or she seems painful, I would have your vet take a look at them . Your vet will be able to determine the cause and the best treatment for her if needed. I hope this helps! https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/#
