My cat is vomiting, not eating, and vets can't diagnose. What now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | neutered | 3 years and 10 months old | 6.2 lbs

My 3 years old long hair cat, started vomiting from two days ago and stopped eating or drinking, and grooming himself. Took him to a vet yesterday, x rays didn’t show anything. Doctor gave him two injections, one for hydration and one for vomiting. He hadn’t start eating at all...he used his litter box a couple of times for a small fry stools.. he started vomiting this morning again.. took him to another dr. Running an ultra sound on him... but there’s nothing they can determine...

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am so sorry you are going through this difficult time. You have done everything right by getting another opinion and doing an ultrasound. At this point more advanced diagnostics like endoscopy and biopsies for instance may be helpful. I would recommend you consider having him evaluated by a veterinary internal medicine specialist who may have more insight on what may be going on. In the meantime, they may consider medications such as appetite stimulants and anti-nausea medications. I really hope he gets better. Best of luck!
