Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 2 lbs
My pinscher has some polka dots on the back. It has the same color as your skin. After a few days it seems that the balls dry and peel, as if it were dandruff. Itches a lot and the region gets a bit hairless. What can this be?

Hi there! I'm so sorry to hear about Bela's troubles. What you are describing can be a number of things. When we have scabbing or other lesions on the skin, it is usually one of the following - a parasite of the skin, a bacterial infection in the skin, a fungal infection, or an allergy to something. I always recommend a vet visit when we have itchy dogs with skin lesions, because 2 possibilities are always scabies or ringworm. These diseases are contagious to humans, and it is best to know right away, so the pet can be treated, and owners can take the appropriate steps to insure they do not become infected. Even if it is something non threatening to humans, like a bacterial infection, the dog will need some oral medications, and often prescription shampoos to help combat the disease. I think it would be best to call Bela's veterinarian right away to have her checked. In the meantime, using something like vetericyn wound and skin care treatment likely can't hurt. You can probably pick this up at your local feed store, or on amazon. I hope you find this answer helpful. Best of luck!
