Why is my dog leaking clear yellow liquid from her rear after pooping?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | unspayed | 1 year old | 45 lbs

After bowel movement, I noticed clear, yellowish liquid leaking from Luna's anus. What could be the cause? (The poop was normal and firm)

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Luna. She could be expressing fluid from her anal glands. This is the normal way that a dog marks her scent. If this is not the case, then the discharge could be mucus from her colon. This is typically the result of inflammation. If it continues, you may want her veterinarian to evaluate a fecal sample to ensure there is not a problem. I hope this information helps!
