My cat has bloody diarrhea and isn't eating. What's going on?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 5 years and 1 month old | 12 lbs

Greg has had chronic diarrhea that has turned into pure blood and orange to yellow liquid that chronically comes out and leaks. He has also stopped eating for the past two days. He is on Albon and Mitranidazol and he sees his vet tomorrow first thing, but I'm super scared as to what this is when all his tests thus far are negative.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! At this point, I would focus on conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease or even cancer such as small cell lymphoma for instance. If an abdominal ultrasound has not been performed, that would be next step diagnostically. All these different conditions are treated with different therapies which is why is so important to first find out what may be going on. Therapy can then be used for the specific condition. Best of luck!
