My dog has tapeworms. What's the best medicine and prevention?

hi doc.i just want to ask about my dog.my dog have a tapeworm what is the best can i do?is there are medicine for them,,

Dogs get tapeworms from ingesting a flea (usually because they are chewing the skin because of the flea). So there are two steps to treat tapeworms: 1) a dewormer to kill the tapeworm and 2) flea prevention to prevent further infestation. Both of these treatments can be purchased from your veterinarian. Oftentimes dogs need to be dewormed twice (2-3 weeks apart) to ensure complete kill of the worm. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
