Why is my kitten peeing and pooping loose stools outside the litter box?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 22 days old

I adopted three stray kittens 1.5 weeks back. All were behaving very good. They got litter trained as well. But all of a sudden one kitten started peeing and pooping (loose motions) on her bed and sometimes wherever she sleeps. What is wrong with her? Today I noticed her while sleeping she suddenly got up, sat there and peed on the couch where they all were sitting with me. And I have lifted her and left her on floor she moved and pooped loose motions on one corner of floor. please help.

Ellie might be sick and this may be causing all these symptoms. Loose stool indicates illness and often inflammation within the bowel. This can cause urgency and sometimes pain. These signs may cause her to not use the litter box. There are many causes of illness including viral infections, bacterial infections, parasites and dietary intolerance. I recommend to have her seen by her veterinarian. The doctor may check her for parasites and will likely give her medications that will hopefully help cure the illness. I recommend to have all the kittens examined in case it’s something contagious. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
