Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 2 months old | 13 lbs
My dog managed to sneak a full slice of pizza (ham and pineapple) last night. He is a small dog (slightly smaller than a shih tzu), plus he had his usual dinner and his supper - before helping himself to the pizza slice. He vomited during the night and had diarrhoea. He obviously wasn’t himself this morning but has since perked up. Is drinking and showing interest in food. Should I be concerned, what should I do? He gets very stressed at vets so don’t want to take him if unnecessary.

Thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Pizza fortunately doesn't have anything toxic to dogs, so we have no concerns there. However, it does appear that the pizza gave him a bit of stomach upset. It is good sign that he has perked up now and seems to have started recovering already. I would continue to monitor him and offer him a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese for the next few days, as well as 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) in his food daily to help firm up his stools. I would also grad some probiotics from your local pharmacy or grocery store and give him that daily for the next week. My top pick here is Culturelle over the counter. This should help resolve most of his stomach upset symptoms within the next 3 days or so. If he is still having issues or doesn't seem to be improving then you should consider taking him in. Hopefully he will continue to improve and do well so he doesn't have to go in to the vet, which apparently isn't his favorite place to be. : ) I hope that Bucko continues to feel better! Best wishes and take care.
