My cat has a scab on his paw. When should I be concerned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10.5 lbs

Stray cat, took in 2.5 weeks ago (he was freezing, -20C), got neutered 11 days ago (vet was supposed to do a full check). 3 days ago started suffering symptoms of URI, giving homemade treatments, seem to be helping. Was looking at him and noticed this scab on his paw, should I be concerned?

Hello, thank you for your question. Based on the photos and the lesion that you describe I would suspect that this cat may have had a wound or infection on his paw pad which has now scabbed over. If he is not licking or bothering the scab I would recommend continuing to monitor it, I believe this will continue to heal without problem. If he is uncomfortable/limping on the paw or licks/rubs at the lesion I would recommend having your veterinarian examine the area so that they can determine if any additional treatments are warranted. Hope this helps, good luck!
