Why is my dog having mushy green stool with blood and house accidents?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 55 lbs

Hello! My dog (rescue pit lab mix who is around 5) is having mushy stool for the last three days. She also had two accidents in house and has never done that. We just had six friends visiting last weekend which was stressful for her. Her stools were mushy and brown but today green and after she went a tiny bit of blood care out with mucous. She also ate dog poop at dog park last weekend too. She is still active and excited. Totally her normal self besides the poop. Thank you!!

Hello, thank you for your question about Mia. Loose stool/diarrhea can be a sign of many underlying problems. It is possible that this could be secondary to GI parasites, ingesting foreign material, or a dietary allergy. Dogs can experience stress colitis leading to diarrhea, but I would not expect these signs to persist for a week. I would recommend submitting a stool sample through your veterinarian to look for any possible GI parasites. Additionally, you could offer her a bland diet, such as boiled chicken/hamburger and white rice for the next few days. If her diarrhea does not resolve or she develops any lethargy or vomiting I would recommend having her evaluated by your veterinarian. They can discuss the need for other diagnostics such as bloodwork or abdominal x-rays based on the findings of an exam. Hope this helps, good luck!
