My new husky puppy has diarrhea, even after deworming. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 24 days old | 10 lbs

My husky pup has had diarrhea since I got her 3 weeks ago. At first I though maybe the change in food, but it continued after a few days of being home. I switched her to a more nutritious brand and she still has diarrhea, which has been a week ago. The lady I bought her from said she had already been dewormed and received her first round of shots. I'm getting concerned, though she is eating and drinking normal and very playful.

The most likely [cause of diarrhea](https://www.petcoach.co/article/most-common-causes-of-diarrhea-in-dogs) in puppies is parasites. One [deworming](https://www.petcoach.co/article/deworming-your-dog-what-to-expect) is not often enough to clear worms. Also, not every dewormer treats for every type of parasite. In the meantime you can start using a [probiotic](https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/proviable-dc-chewable-tablet-for-dogs). A heavy parasite burden can cause death in some puppies if severe enough, so submit a stool sample to your veterinarian for diagnosis. Results are often returned within 24 hours. If the results are positive, your veterinarian will recommend or dispense the appropriate treatment. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
