My dog has bloody diarrhea and won't eat. When to see vet again?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Treeing Walker Coonhound | Female | spayed | 50 lbs

Hi! Our 2-year-old female hound has been refusing to eat her normal food since Saturday. She has bloody diarrhea, will not drink water unless it’s chicken broth, seems more hunched over, is urinating very frequently, and is now scooting her rear against the ground. She is otherwise alert and responsive. We visited the vet on Monday and she received nausea meds and rehydration rings and we’ve been feeding her the bland diet. I’m trying to decide when to take her back to the vet for care. Pls help

I think you should recheck with your vet if Luna is still not wanting to eat and still having diarrhea with blood present. While it's possible that she just needs a little more time on the medications your vet might also want to run some additional tests to make sure nothing else is going on - blood work or a fecal analysis might be recommended.
