Why is my puppy's skin flaky and how can I treat its dandruff?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Toy Poodle | Female | unspayed

My puppy has really bad dandruff and flaky skin right now, how to I treat her skin and dandruff? And how do I make her skin smooth again? She does have allergies but she was given anti biotic and a allergy shot so I’m not sure what is going on. She doesn’t eat anything bad, I feed her the accana brand.

Adding fish oil to the diet can help with skin inflammation/allergies and dandruff. There are prescription skin diets such as Royal Canin skin support that are five star rated by owners to help with itchy, allergic skin. It is possibly that Noir has a food allergy and as there are lots of different proteins in some of the Acana foods, trying a single protein Acana diet such as Acana duck is an option as well Douxo calm dog and cat shampoo is also highly rated for helps support a healthy skin barrier and will likely reduce dandruff and flakiness when used weekly as well.

You can try a moisturizing shampoo and cream rinse, and some dietary supplements may help as well. Make sure that fleas and mites have been ruled out as a cause. If you are in a very dry area (especially in the winter) keeping humidifiers going can also be beneficial.
