My puppy had rectal prolapse. How to prevent it and pooping fear?

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | 1 month and 25 days old | 5 lbs

my puppy recently suffered from rectal prolapse due to his food/diet; I switched up his food; although they were able to push it back in Im still worried and concerned for my puppy and need to know what i can do to insure this doesn't happen again along with helping my puppy overcome his fear of doing

I would talk to your vet about ensuring he is on the proper diet, but also about whether or not he needs to be on a stool softener for a little while. The fear will have to improve with time once the dog realizes it doesn't hurt to have a BM. If you are afraid he is still in pain, I would talk to your vet about starting him on some meds to help this as well. I hope this helps!
