My puppy cries all night wanting to play. How can I make her sleep?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltipoo | Female | spayed | 11 lbs

I have a puppy(1y4m) havibg trouble getting to sleep at night. She used to sleep with me at night in my room for the whole now. However, she has been crying to go play outside recently. She wanted to play with my sister by crying until my sister will open the bedroom for her. Sometimes she stays up until 4 am crying to get into my sister room. I dont know what to do so i lock her inside my bedroom with me while sleeping. Is it creul to do that because she keeps crying? I have no ideas what to do

I don't think it is cruel, you are trying to teach her that she cannot play in the middle of the night. I would try really hard to keep her up until you go to bed. Try to play a lot with her before y'all go to bed. I would also consider getting a sound machine to help soothe her at night. Also remember that she is still small, make sure she isn't having to go potty in the middle of the night. If she will sleep in a crate this may be a good option so she knows it is bed time. You can also try giving her a little beandryl or a small amount of melatonin right before bed. This may or may not help subdue her. In rare cases, it can have no effect or the opposite effect on their activity level . I would talk to her vet before doing that to ensure it is safe for her medical history and to get an appropriate dose for her. I hope this helps!
