My dog ate a tiny bit of onion. Should I be concerned or call the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My Boston terriers ate liver patties that contained some onion. It was 2 onions per kilo of liver and they only ate a small liver patty between the both of them. They both weigh about 12 kg. Will they be okay or should I go to the vet?

Tiny traces of onion are unlikely to cause any significant effects and so I would not panic overly but monitor closely for any weakness or other signs of ilness over the next 7-10days. There is no antidote to onion toxicity but supportive treatment can be helpful if symptoms arise
