Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Female | 1.5 lbs
I just took in a guinea pig from someone who no longer had enough time to give her the attention she needs. I was told she is a four-year-old female, and liked being held and hand fed. Since she has been with us, she does not seem very social and runs to her hideaway anytime we try to pet or pick her up.... do I just need to give her more time to become adjusted, or could it be that she just does not like to be held? How can I tell?

She likely just needs time to adjust to new surroundings/a new handler/owner if the previous owner said that she liked to be held and hand fed. Offering her a variety of guinea pig treats available at your local pet store as well as hay may help her to warm up to her new surroundings faster. Good luck and congrats on your new pet!
