My senior dog is lethargic, not eating, anemic. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | 9 years and 9 months old | 99 lbs

My giant breed dog is 9 years old so in the senior bracket. He lost his appetite, still drinking and urinating normally, lethargic and acting very down. He keeps taking himself off to quiet areas of the house and garden to lay and is not interested in food, walks or attention from us (which he previously lived for) we had tests done at the vets. Urine is normal. Bloods are showing he is anaemia plus has low albumin. They have sent off for more tests to rule out everything. Should I be worried

I am so sorry to hear about Yogi. Yes, anemia and low albumin are very concerning problems. It indicates the the body is either losing protein or the liver can not create it anymore. Additional liver test such as bile acids as well as An abdominal ultrasound may be recommended to help determine the diagnosis. Best of luck and I hope you find an answer soon.
