My puppy has diarrhea but is active. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 9 months and 12 days old | 17 lbs

My 9 month old Bichon Has diarrhea for past 24 hrs, still happy and drinking water. Eats Acana puppy food with cut up chicken breast normally. Should I just cut off food for 12-24 hours and then slowing introduce food back in or should I be taking to vet?

If there is blood in the stool or he is unable to even control the diarrhea then I would take him to the vet right away If not I would change his diet to just the. Boiled chicken and rice. You can get probiotics from the vet or pet store to add to the food to help. If it continues past 24 hours of a bland diet then I would get him checked
