My dog has a rash around her nose and mouth. What's causing it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 65 lbs

Yesterday afternoon, I noticed my dog suddenly had a rash appear below her nose, and within the lips of her mouth. They don’t seem to be bothering her, and do not seem to affect her breathing or energy levels. They are not getting worse, but they are not getting better. She has been on the same grain-free dog food for months and has not had any issues with it. Any idea what this could be?

Thank you for posting the pictures, they are helpful. I am concerned that it could be a bacterial infection. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian soon. She may been antibiotics and possibly a steroid to help decrease the inflammation. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
