My dog coughs after eating and has white discharge from her eye?

Our dog sometimes coughs & hacks after she eats or drinks. She has some white discharge coming out of her right eye. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 25 lbs

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I would recommend elevating her food / water bowls to see if this makes a difference. There are food bowl stands that you can use as well. If this is a consistent problem, I would recommend having your veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. The white eye discharge may be from allergies, eye infection, upper respiratory infection or irritation. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
