Why is my new Samoyed puppy sleeping so much? Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Samoyed | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 6 days old | 18 lbs

Hi, I just got my puppy, he is a Samoyed and he was born in Oct 29/18. This breed it’s suppose to be very energetic as I was told, but he is sleeping most of the time I would say 90% it’s that ok.

Congratulations on your new puppy Mercury! Puppies do sleep a lot when they are young. Being that he is so new to your, it's hard to know what is normal for him. Other things you need to watch to know if he is healthy are food intake- young puppies eat a lot. He should wake up and be playful at times. He should drink water and should not exhibit any coughing, excessive sneezing, vomiting or soft stool. If you see any signs of illness, have him examined by his veterinarian. When in doubt, have him examined as well. Thats the best way to know if everything is ok. I hope this helps to point you in the right direction. Please feel free to post any further questions!
