Why is my cat weak, not eating, drinking lots, and standing in water?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered

My cat threw up Wednesday night twice and by the next morning I noticed he was a weak looking. He won't eat anything, I have noticed him drinking a lot but he has not thrown up since. But he is also putting his front and back paws in the water and just standing in it. He isn't active at all unless it's to get to the water bowl. Is there any explanation for this?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds like Thena might be feeling very sick. Vomiting can be due to gastric disease, kidney disease, liver disease, toxins, and other causes. Drinking a lot can be due to dehydration from vomiting, kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, etc. I recommend that you have Thena into your vet and get a blood test performed to check the organs, and also see if Thena needs IV fluids. I hope he feels better soon!
