My cat keeps peeing in the tub. Is it a UTI or bladder stone?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | spayed | 3 years and 2 months old | 9 lbs

My cat was treated with a shot of abt for a suspected uti and given 4 days of a pain medication. We couldn’t collect a urine sample. she was peeing in the tub and urine was foul smelling. She didn’t pee in the tub any more. 6 days later she peed in the tub this morning. I collected a sample with a syringe and dropped it off at the vet for a UA. She just did it again after a shower and this was in the bottom of the tub In the stream of urine. Any ideas? I thought maybe she passed a stone.

Ouch, that could definitely be a stone. It would be a good idea for her to have an x-ray and ultrasound of her bladder. I would also be concerned about something like feline idiopathic cystitis in which the bladder feels like it has a UTI, but there's not actually any bacteria. I'd let your vet know what happened when they call with results.
