Why is my cat peeing blood, licking, and going often? Is it a UTI?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Female cat has been licking her privates, pee every few minutes and it’s a rust color like blood. What could this be and what can she take to feel better?

It's either a bladder inflammation or a urinary tract infection, you must take her to the vet urgently to get it treated, she will need several prescription medications and a special prescription food to get better.

Poor Marmalade. Yes that does look like blood and blood in the urine as well as frequent urination and urination in different than normal places are all signs of a UTI or feline idiopathic cystitis. These are very uncomfortable for the cat, which is why she is licking down there frequently. She needs to see a vet immediately to have this diagnosed and treated. Please take her into a vet now. I hope this helps.

Poor Selley! It could be that she is suffering from a UTI or bladder stone. I would recommend taking her into your vet tomorrow for an exam. Your vet can do routine blood tests and a urinalysis to see if she does have a UTI or bladder stones. If she has a UTI, she will need antibiotics to treat it. Bladder stones may need to be removed surgically, or can be managed with diet.
