My cat has been throwing up for hours. Is it time to call the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 lbs

My cat has now been throwing up for 10 hours. She started throwing up her dry food (not her wet). Then she progressed to throw up spit. We have stopped feeding her but it is still happening. She has been drinking water. What do we do?

This sounds serious and I would recommend seeing a veterinarian right away. Zoey may be dehydrated even though she is continuing to drink water. She might have an intestinal obstruction, pancreatitis, or kidney disease. Your veterinarian might want to check blood work or an x-ray to determine what is going on and can hopefully start some treatment to help with the constant vomiting.
