My dog has a watery, green, swollen eye. How can I afford a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 7 months old | 6 lbs

I'm hoping to get some help for my poor boy. His name is Spartacus, He is approximately 1 and a half years old. His eye is very watery and is discharging some kind of green goo. His inner eyelid is swollen and red. I dont have much funds for a vet appointment and was wondering what is causing this and what type of medication he needs to treat whatever this is. Here are some photos of his eye..sorry if its not clear as he didn't want to stay still

It looks like poor Spartacus has an eye infection. Unfortunately, it is illegal for the experts on this site to prescribe medication without seeing the animal in person first. He has to see a vet as soon as possible to have this treated because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. Best Friends also has a list of resources that offer financial assistance on their website. http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/tips/trouble_affording_pet.html?credit=web_id91754962 https://www.redrover.org https://www.carecredit.com http://bestfriends.org/resources/financial-aid-pets http://lessonsfromaparalyzeddog.com/when-pet-owners-cant-afford-veterinary-bills/ http://www.dogheirs.com/resources-affordable-veterinary-care/ Check out these resources to see if one can help you, and please bring him into a vet. Best of luck.
