Why is my cat throwing up watery yellow-brown bile or stomach acid?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 years and 6 months old | 12 lbs

Kingsley puked up s yellowish brown liquid. There wasn't any food in it. Is that stomach acid? What would make a cat do that? There wasn't any hair in it either. It was very watery.

Yes the yellow part is likely to be bile (to be sure I would need a picture of it attach to the question), whereas brown liquid could be possibly digested blood. As a first approach, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
