Puppy diarrhea, lethargy, and eating poop after shots. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 3 days old | 11 lbs

I have a 9 week old German Shepherd puppy with diarrhea that doesn’t seem to be getting better. He just had his first puppy shots on Monday. I feed him Wellness puppy food as well as training treats. I’m cutting out treats for now. He is eating and drinking but has been sleeping more than normal today. He also tries to eat his poop. He’s a long haired pup and seems to get hot really easily. Always seeks out cold surfaces especially by the sliding door. How should I proceed?

I would recommend putting him on a bland diet. Due to his age I ideally would recommend a prescription diet but since the holiday is approaching you can always do boiled chicken and white rice. If the stool doesn't resolve or gets worse then I recommend taking him to a veterinarian and having them deworm him and check a stool sample for intestinal parasites.
