My pup has been retching coughing since she came home yesterday. I adopted her from a shelter

Poor girl. Shelter pets often get an upper respiratory infection (Kennel cough) that causes a lot of coughing. I would recommend taking her in to your vet to have her treated with a short course of antibiotics. This should clear things up. Best wishes with your pet and I hope his cough resolves soon!
