House-trained dog peeing in new home, even on bed. How to stop?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | 2 years and 6 months old | 55 lbs

We just bought a new house and now my fully house trained dog is going to the bathroom in the house including urinating on our bed. I haven't had a problem with her going to the bathroom in the house since 2 days after I brought her home from the pound a little over a year ago. I'm thinking it's because we don't have a fenced in yard anymore so she's throwing a fit. Were fencing in the yard in about 3 months, but I'm tired of constantly washing sheets. What can I do to make it stop?

I recommend restricting her from your bedroom and keeping her in a crate when you are not able to watch her. She needs a refresher in housebreaking. In addition please take her for long walks twice daily and many potty breaks too. Give her a treat and praise when she goes outside. Once she’s settled into the new house this behavior should improve but in the meantime don’t give her a chance to potty in the house.
